Into Gulf Country

The landscape changes are amazing as you head further north into the tropics... through savannah country scattered will the living sculptures of millions of termites mounds, I never get tired of looking at them and wondering who decides on the architecture. Some are thin funnels, others bulbous domes and some are the Taj Mahal with multiple towers and massive in size. Some taller than Max, some as wide as a car. They disappear after 20k or so for not apparent reason, and reappear again in their thousands, 10k down the road.

Landscape lightly scattered with small trees gives way to pockets of beautiful white gums and dense bushland lining disappearing creeks and rivers, then you pass the massive clay pans and mangrove forests than announce the coast... we are finally in the Gulf.

The floods were bad out here year or two ago and so much roadwork is being done, it is strange top pull have at a traffic light when you feel like the only car on the road.
We had a couple of 'holy sh%t' moments... when a single lane on a bend changed to a narrow bridge with a road train in the middle of it. we barely pull up in time and his last trailer passed us with a metre to spare! No pics of that I was either holding my breath or swearing - I can't remember which.
