Today began with a photo of sunrise of the water Lake Dunn and ended with a photo of sunset over Hughenden and the vast plains beyond.
I love the drive... waving grasses, a wallaby or brolga along the road, slowing to give way to Brahmans who've escaped the fence, a wedgetail swooping up from the roadside straight overhead, and then you stop for a cuppa in the middle of this awesome landscape and feel blessed to live in the 'lucky country'.
Amazingly, this morning someone we met had a cousin in Albury, turned out he lived opposite us growing up! And this evening we shared the sunset with people from the Mitta Valley who buy fishing gear from my brother's shop!
From Aramac to Hughenden the road is mostly single lane tar with verges sharp enough to shred a tyre. At the beginning of our trip we had to make room for half a dozen trucks or so in the first hour,(might has right!), then nothing at all for a couple of hours until we hit the dirt. Huge lot of roadworks going on out here, we have seen them on every stage of our trip. Cruised into Hughenden and had a rest before heading to the local sunset spot, Mount Walker.
No clouds and the sunset seemed a bit of a dud until we were driving home... should have stayed down on the plains, the orange glow through the trees and town was awesome.
Decided to shout ourselves a take away Chinese meal. $30 of food in Melbourne costs you $74 out here!!!!
