I know this picture doesn't really show how difficult the spot was |
Hughenden was on my list of places to learn more about the dinosaurs. There really isn't much here from a tourists perspective, s after a look through the small museum and around the town we headed off 70k out of town to Porcupine Gorge.
Maybe it was naive of us to expect that when National Parks puts a description 'suitable for large vans' next to a campsite online booking map, it would be.
Oh No!
Between the overhanging tree branch, the rocks jutting out into the entrance to the camp spot and a fireplace positioned for some maniacal reason, just off centre and the the front of the spot, we knew we were in for a challenge. It was the last spot available so we had to get in there! Backing is not our forte! But we did it! After lots of discussion and manouvreing we were proud of we hadn't lost our cool (much) ad we didn't break anything! We met some great people too, everyone is so friendly and relaxed. and keen to cut about their travel, and a few even commented on how well we had done to get the van into the tight squeeze of a spot!
The Gorge is awesome and well worth the visit. Staying just one night doesn't let you figure out the best vantage points for sunrise, sunset etc but Mother Nature turned on another spectacular. I think sunsets are becoming a feature of our trip. I tried my first attempt at night sky photography, a bit of a dud really, much more complicated than I expected, but I like my picture anyway! I can see the southern cross.
